As an increasing number of employees are assuming caregiving responsibilities (or have had it thrust on them), a new category of discrimination has emerged called family responsibility discrimination. Although there is no federal law expressly prohibiting discrimination against caregivers, employees are bringing such claims under existing statutes such as the ADA and FMLA. This article provides examples of such claims and tips for employers.

In the case of Poss v. Turner, the Tennessee Court of Appeals dealt with the issue of the legal effect of when a parent transfers money to a child. Mrs. Turner, the decedent, was the payee on a check for $16,000.00.
