Mr. Courtner received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Economics and Finance, cum laude, from Union University in 2006. At Union, Mr. Courtner was awarded the Academic Excellence Award in Economics and Finance as well as the Political Science Minor Award.
Mr. Courtner received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, from Mississippi College School of Law in 2009. During law school, Mr. Courtner earned the American Jurisprudence award in Corporate and Partnership Taxation, Torts I, Secured Transactions, and Counseling and Negotiation Seminar. Mr. Courtner also received the 2008-2009 Bradley Arant Best Comment Award, the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni Award, and the Estates and Trusts Section of the Mississippi Bar Award. In law school, Mr. Courtner was the on-line articles editor for the Mississippi College Law Review. Finally, Mr. Courtner served for two years as a research assistant for Professor Deborah Challener.
Mr. Courtner is the author of “The Intersection of Hollywood & Jurisprudence: Examining Change Through 12 Angry Men & the Proposed Amendments to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 56,” 28 Miss. C. L. Rev.427 (2009).
Mr. Courtner received his Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 2010. While pursuing an L.L.M., Mr. Courtner was a research assistant for Professor Noel Cunningham.
Mr. Courtner is a member of the Jackson-Madison County Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association.
Mr. Courtner was admitted to practice in 2010 by the Tennessee Supreme Court. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Tennessee for the Western District of Tennessee, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court.
